As the main character of a wildly successful anime series, Usagi has recieved quite a deal of both praise and criticism.
On the surface, she appears to be a brainless, klutzy teenage girl, who, by some mistake, it seems, learns that she is the warrior Sailor Moon and was the princess and heir of the Moon Kingdom in her former life.
Although her naivety and lack of resolve are readily aparrent, sometimes her better side shines through. In the right situations, Usagi clearly shows that she is compassionate, unselfish, loyal, and that she comes through for her friends when it counts.
In the anime at least, Usagi is a clingy romantic who idealizes the world and never seems to get down to business. When she becomes Sailor Moon, however, her princessly self manifests itself, and she has what it takes to get the job done.
My opinion: Usagi is really not one of my favorite characters, mostly due to how much she has been overdone in fan fiction. I've seen Usagi take on so many different personality characteristics that were not truly hers, and unfortunately it's tainted my view of the real character.
