Sailor Saturn, the senshi of death and destruction, ironically has the alter ego of Tomoe Hotaru, a young, innocent girl aged 12 or 13. Hotaru had been brought up by her father, but at the end of the Super S season, she was transformed back into an infant. At this time, she passed into the care of the older outer senshi, who agreed to raise her as their own child. Hotaru grew much more quickly than normal.
Throughout her life, Hotaru has been gifted with healing powers, which have alienated her from peers and left her without any real friends. Chibiusa was the first to really show unconditional love for Hotaru, and as a result, they became best friends, despite their age difference of several years.
Sailor Saturn is unquestionably the most powerful senshi of the group. She alone possesses the power to destroy and renew the entire universe, although this is forbidden and she only rarely uses this ability.
